Rydalmere Daikin dealer leverages local expertise to deliver tailored solutions

In the world of air conditioning installations, understanding the unique needs of a community to build relationships is as important as the technology itself.
J&J Metro Air Conditioning’s Managing Director, John Megalli, believes this has been the key to the Rydalmere-based business’s success, transforming the local Daikin dealership into a respected industry leader.
Even after 30 years in business, 15 as a Daikin dealer, John and his team keep learning.
“Local regulations change, technology moves forward, and climate patterns shift. The moment you think you know everything is the moment you start falling behind,” John said.
Building trust through local knowledge
For Daikin dealerships and air conditioning professionals like John, knowing the ins and outs of the local area is paramount.
“Local knowledge matters more than most customers realise. It’s not just about putting in a machine, it’s about offering tailored solutions to create the right environment for people to live and work,” John said.
“Understanding and delivering on customer needs builds trust, and if there’s no trust in our work, there’s no business. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
J&J Metro Air Conditioning prides itself on keeping abreast of local council rules about air conditioning, noise levels, energy use and efficiency, and the latest technology.
Understanding local weather patterns also add another layer of required knowledge.
“Hot summers, mild winters, and changing humidity mean you can’t just pick any system. You need to understand the local climates,” John explained.
“An air conditioning system that works perfectly in one part of the city might struggle just a few kilometres away,” he added.
Delivering the Daikin difference through tailored solutions
Despite the technological advancements in the air conditioning sector, customers still require specialist advice to bridge the knowledge gap and tailor installations to specific needs.
At J&J Metro Air Conditioning, the team map out each project to fully understand the client’s requirements, taking into consideration how many people will use the space, what equipment is in the room, how much sunlight comes in, and the building’s specific layout.
This careful approach helps to prevent expensive mistakes, saving customers money and providing better cooling.
“We often find people will initially seek out a system that is either too big or too small for their home. A system that’s too small for the property won’t cool properly, and if it is too big, it will waste power and money,” John explained.
“That’s why every job is unique. It’s never a case of one size fits all, and we treat the customer as an individual to find the best solution for that particular project,” he said.
The East Village Shopping Centre: A lesson in mastering complexity
The East Village Shopping Centre in Zetland was a significant milestone for J&J Metro Air Conditioning, which involved a $20 million mechanical and air conditioning contract.
Spanning two years, beginning in 2012, J&J Metro Air Conditioning was tasked with installing all residential apartments with Daikin air conditioning systems. The commercial spaces, ranging from supermarkets, gyms to a car dealership, each required bespoke, tailored solutions. Every space presented its own unique demands, from differing sizes to specific functional requirements.
The development put John and his team’s local knowledge to the test, proving the company’s skill in handling complex air conditioning installations across a range residential and commercial spaces.
The project was completed in October 2014, culminating in an award-winning mixed-use centre, elevating J&J Metro Air Conditioning’s industry profile.
A decade later, the company still maintains a strong relationship with the development, proof of their quality work and commitment to long-term client relationships.
